Chest Pain Causes & Symptoms
Heart Pains, Heartburn & Chest Pains
If you’ve ever experienced chest pain, you realize it’s one of the most frightening symptoms you can have. Our emergency care center treats a wide range of chest pain symptoms on a daily basis. When a patient complains of chest pain, our North Texas ER physicians quickly determine if it’s something minor or if it may be life-threatening.
Any part of the chest can be the cause of the pain, including your heart, lungs, esophagus, muscle, bone, and skin. Because of the vast number of nerves extending through the body, chest pain may actually originate from another part of the body. The stomach or other organs in the belly (abdomen), for example, can cause chest pain.
Potential causes of chest pain:
- Heart attack
- Angina
- Aortic dissection
- Blood clots
- Collapsed lung
- Acute pericarditis
- Mitral valve prolapse
- Pneumonia
- Disorders of the esophagus
- Acid reflux aka (heartburn)
